Having a pool, even one that is closed, can still pose a risk to children and other members of your family, including furry pets! Below we’ve included some simple steps you can take, to ensure the safety of everyone living in your home.

Install a pool fence! If you haven’t installed a pool fence yet, now is the time. Your pool should be enclosed by a fence that has a self-closing and self-latching gate with a lock. The fence should be a minimum of 4’ high and have a child safety locking mechanism that is at 54” from the ground.

Check your fence. For those who already have a pool fence, this is a good time to evaluate your fence and ensure it isn’t in need of any repairs. Even a small amount of damage can create a space large enough for a child to fit through. This means verifying the gate latches and locks properly, ensuring there are no missing pieces or gaps in the fence and checking for holes in mesh fences.

Cover your pool properly. If you’ve already covered your pool with a winter cover, ensure that it is securely anchored to the ground, so there is no risk of a child slipping under the pool cover or getting caught in it, should they try to walk on it. The cover you choose should be able to withstand a substantial amount of weight. You should also maintain the cover by cleaning it regularly and removing debris to prevent it from getting weighed down.

Install a pool alarm that will notify you if there is any disturbance in the water. A pool alarm is an excellent backup safety measure, in the event a child manages to bypass a pool fence and pool cover. If you already have a pool alarm, be sure to test the batteries and make sure it is still working properly.

In addition to these steps, it’s important to educate children about the importance of staying away from pools during off season. That includes friends who visit, not just your own children. Whether the pool is in your own backyard or you are renting a house with a pool, it is critical to ensure pool safety happens year round and not just during the summer months.

Life Saver is happy to answer your questions regarding whether your pool is safe and secure for the off-season, winter this year and beyond. Ensure you and your family are safe! We are here for the lifetime of your pool fence, helping you keep it in tip top shape safety wise!

If you need to install new pool fencing, contact us today at (516) 766-5336. While we are in our fall season in New York, there is still plenty of time to have an installation performed.

While swimming pools provide hours of fun for the family, it is important that we are aware of the risks associated with having a pool at home. Especially if you have small children at home, a child safety fence is a must have. With so many of the storms occurring around the country, it’s time to make sure everything is installed correctly and certainly undamaged.

Proper Maintenance Is The Answer: Safety Is Not A One Time Event

Installing a quality pool fence helps prevent unauthorized access to the pool and avoids accidental drowning. If you already have one, it is important to regularly check for damages as a damaged pool fence poses a drowning risk. And just like anything else around our homes, keeping it in good condition requires proper maintenance.

Remember that your fence is installed close to your pool and is exposed to water and other chemicals which can damage your fencing. Depending on the type of fence you installed, some of them requires a high level of maintenance to keep in good working condition.

Here are some tips on how you can keep your pool fence in great shape:

Ask your pool fence installer for suggestions on how to properly clean your fencing materials. Cleaning helps eliminate the health hazard that dirt carries to your children.

Regularly check for possible gaps in the fence.

Check frequently for holes especially if you are using a mesh fence.

Check to see if the gates still lock and close properly.

Ensure pool alarms are working properly. Check if it needs new batteries.

If your fence is damaged, call a pool fence contractor to make the necessary repairs and upgrades, or replace them when needed. If you need to replace them, consider using a temporary pool fence. This promotes child safety around the pool while work is ongoing.

Owning a swimming pool comes with a great responsibility. You need to make sure your pool barriers are in great shape. A pool fence may not guarantee complete protection but it keeps unsupervised children from getting into your pool, keeping them from harm.

Life Saver will be happy to take your questions on how to maintain and repair damaged swimming pool fence to maximize child safety. Or if you need to install new pool fencing, contact us today at (516) 766-5336. While we are getting into the Fall season in New York, there is still plenty of time to have an installation performed.

Many Long Island families have used and trusted Life Saver Pool Fence in their efforts to provide a safe swimming pool environment for their families. For the past 25 years, we have been the innovators of our industry – bringing to the market new innovative ideas for pool fence customers.

It is our belief that when someone buys a Life Saver Pool Fence that we install, the customer must be satisfied and their pool fence should look great as long as they own it. Here’s a list of four upgrades to consider for this spring.

Pool Fence Maintenance: Like any other safety device such as a smoke alarm, for example, it is wise to replace the batteries once a year and test them twice a year, to make sure they function properly. It’s the same thing for a pool safety fence. You need to remove the fence once a year and clean out the sleeves that the poles go into. You can do this by simply using a garden hose with a jet spray attachment and squirt the sediment from the holes. You need to also clean the bottom poles of the fence removing any dirt. Also, make sure all the deck sleeves are completely flush to your pool deck. Now reinstall your pool fence into those clean holes. Once the fence is up latched together, make sure all the latches are secure so that a child can’t get in. If you have a gate you may need to make an adjustment (the directions are on your key). If you feel this is too much for you then give us a call and we can do it for you. The cost is $100.00 for the maintenance. This ensures a proper functioning fence for years to come.

Add a Gate to your Fence: Many customers opt out from purchasing the gate and have a Layback section or Manual opening installed. However, as your family grows, you may have an older child now and a toddler. It’s safer in this instance to have a self-closing, self-locking gate. To install it, we may have to cut out a section of the pool fence to accommodate the gate. It’s not that involved but does take some time. The cost for the installation is between $450.00 and $500.00, depending on how many cuts we need to make. A gate is a terrific addition and will make your pool time much safer and enjoyable and should be considered.

Add Omni Hangers to your Fence: Sometimes when we revisit a customer we notice that they hang things on their fences, like wet towels. This can cause the mesh to sag a little bit. So we invented and designed the world’s first pool fence hanger. The Omni Hanger is a hanger that sits on the top of a fence pole and it’s used to hang stuff such as Towels, Life Jackets, Life Preservers, Toys, and Goggles, and if you use 2 Omni Hangers you can hang Pool Cleaning Nets, Shepherd Hooks, Hoses, Etc. They keep your pool area tidy and add safety because you’ll always have a safety item like a life vest within arm’s reach. The cost of each hanger is $10.00 each.

Pool Fence Solar Lights: This type of solar lights is another innovative Pool fence accessory designed by Life Saver Pool Fence. We believe that you need to have a constant view of your pool area day or night. The Pool Fence Solar Light slips over the top of any pool fence pole and at 3 lumens each lights up the area surrounding it. You can add 1 on every pole or every other pole. You can also install 1 on each side of your pool fence gate. It doesn’t only adds to the look of your pool but it also gives extra safety so you can constantly see what’s going on in and around your pool at night. At a cost of $5.00 each, you can inexpensively transform the look of your swimming pool.
